Awards party is fitting end for high school season

Over seventy family and friends of the Vero Beach Varsity Sailing Team gathered on Saturday evening, May 20, 2017, at Rich and Paula Findley’s home to celebrate the end of the 2016-17 sailing season and award varsity letters and other trophies and certificates.

Everyone enjoyed a full evening that featured a Vero-to-Norway Skype conversation with former YSF Sailing Director Gary Griffith and his wife Jules, live entertainment, an awards ceremony, and a wonderful buffet dinner. YSF Director George Hinman addressed the team, congratulating them on a very successful season that began and ended with clean sweeps in regattas. Sailing Director Mary Morgan awarded six first-time Vero Beach High School Varsity letters, and recognized three repeating lettermen, giving special recognition to graduating senior and team captain Alden Findley along with departing foreign exchange students Virginia Zedda (Italy) and Clem Goffart (Belgium).

Though the regular season is over, quite a few YSF high school sailors will stay engaged over the summer by staffing YSF Summer Sailing Camps, participating in recreational Saturday sailing, or both. With Coach Morgan and all but three team members returning in the fall, the varsity sailors look forward to another season of continued progress and success. Way to go!
