High School Sailing Team
The Vero Beach High School Sailing Team was founded in September 2014 in collaboration with Youth Sailing Foundation. During the 2014-15 season VBHS students learned to sail and compete in the two-person 14-foot 420 sailboat. After successfully competing in a sanctioned regatta in Sarasota Florida, eight members of the team were awarded varsity letters. VBHS is a member of the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA), the governing body for secondary school sailing in the United States.
Indian River County Charter School joined the YSF high school sailing program for the 2015-16 Season. Home school students joined the program the same year. With a fleet of 19 420’s YSF plans to continue growing the high school program. Students from any high school in IRC are encouraged to join us. Click here for info on collegiate sailing teams and scholarships.
YSF’s Sailing Director Mary Morgan serves as instructor and team coach and is supported by over fifty volunteers with hundreds of years of collective sailing experience, who assist out on the water and who maintain the fleet to the highest standards in our fully equipped workshops.
Come sail the Indian River Lagoon with your friends on Wednesdays and Fridays after school, and on Sunday afternoons. Experience the thrill of silently flying across the water in command of your own vessel! It is easy to join.

Life jackets: It is required that ALL sailors AT ALL TIMES wear an adequate PFD (personal flotation device – the proper name for life jacket). This life jacket (PFD) needs to be a brightly colored, Coast Guard approved, Type III or better with no collar that can get caught on the boat rigging. Type V inflatable life jackets should NOT be used in this course. PFDs are sized by user’s weight. Be sure to purchase the proper size! A whistle should be attached with a line to the life jacket and your name should be written on the life jacket. Appropriate PFD’s are readily available at K-Mart, West Marine, Wal-Mart and dive shops.
