“Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” So said the Water Rat in Kenneth Grahame’s book, Wind in the Willows, and rightly so!
This week, a dozen kids are getting first hand experience learning all about boats and how to sail them at YSF’s Summer Camp. The kids have the benefit of our great, experienced staff, and YSF’s fleet of colorful Optimist dinghies.
After starting out as beginners on Monday, the kids easily get underway and look pretty salty out there on the Indian River Lagoon by Friday. The Moorings Yacht Club hosts our youthful camp sailors.
Summer Camp runs for six weeks this summer, and we’re already in our third week. Each week, 12 new kids, ages 8 to 13, learn the bow from the stern and a whole lot more, and have a fantastic time doing it. All of our camp slots are filled for this summer.
What a great experience with lots of fun memories, new friends and new skills!
