YSFIRC Sailing Director Mary Morgan teamed up with Ben Fusco to present some great sailing experiences for our youth at last week’s clinics.

YSFIRC hosted three days of sailing clinics with world class sailor Ben Fusco last week. Teaming up with our sailing director, Mary Morgan, Fusco held informational classes and on-the-water practices for our young sailors. 24 of our Opti sailors and 15 high school 420 sailors participated in the clinics.

Fusco boasts a lengthy list of sailing, instructing, and coaching accomplishments. He sailed Opti’s, Lasers, and 420’s before attending University College Dublin. There, he captained the sailing team and participated in three university big boat world competitions. Since then, he has coached and instructed at top European level competitions. With more than 14,000 offshore miles and passages under his belt, and a hefty portfolio of coaching experience, Fusco moved to the United States in 2015, where he continues to coach and instruct.

“From a coaching standpoint, I have an extremely holistic and grounded approach, the central tenant of which is the personal development of sailors to allow to go on and be independent thinkers on the water, as well as fostering a love a sport that has given me so very much,” Fusco describes his philosophy.

YSFIRC was lucky to be able to bring Fusco to Indian River County where our sailors were the happy recipients of that perspective and experience last week.
