Cam began sailing at 8 years old at Fort Walton Yacht Club. At age 10, he began volunteering for the ECSA program and started his instructing career. His family moved to Ohio and joined the Hoover Sailing Club where he began sailing competitively and instructing at learn to sail summer camps. Cam raced for his high school during the school year and the Hoover Sailing Club Junior Race Team in the summers. He sailed 420’s as crew because his size and weight made him a perfect candidate, but he also gained experience as a skipper, and in different boats such as Lasers, Thistles, and FJ’s. Upon graduation, Cam enrolled at Denison University where he was part of the Varsity Mens Swimming and Diving Program for 2.5 years. Cam went on to become COHSSA assistant coach for 17 high schools instructing 55+ 7-12th graders in both 420s and FJs. In the sailing off season, Cam was the Denison University Swim and Dive team videographer and assistant team manager.
For two summers, 2021 and 2022, Cam was the assistant head sailing race team coach for Put-In-Bay Swim and Sail camp as well as head instructor for their learn to sail program. As assistant head coach, he would travel around Ohio’s Lake Erie with the race team to different sailing events including the I-LYA traveler series and US Sailing Junior Olympics at Mentor Harbor Yacht Club.
With Cam’s extensive sailing instructing, coaching and racing background, he is a valuable asset to YSF!
